The second Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd (IKEA) store will be opening on the 18 of December 2020, in Navi Mumbai. They are also planning smaller stores in Mumbai. These stores are expected to come up in the Southern and Western parts of Mumbai as well as the central suburbs of the city. Ikea is also planning to invest Rs 6,000 crore ($815.7 million) for its expansion in the state of Maharashtra. According to the sources, the store will be employing close to 1200 employees, out of which 50% are women. The other 40% are from the Navi Mumbai area and most of the support staff from the Turbhe and Ghansoli area.
IKEA is a Swedish multinational company founded in 1943, and since 2008 it has been the largest furniture retailer in the world. The importance given to the safety measures during the pandemic by IKEA at their store opening is remarkable. All the customers who plan on attending the store opening are required to register in advance.
